Robert "Bob" Dowdell did a fabulous job at a thankless task, that of being "yes man" to Captain Crane.  He was seldom given the meaningful kind of lines that could have showcased his actual ability.

It's a fact that Del Monroe, who admirably played the lowly grunt Kowalski, got many more good scenes than did Dowdell, who has, over the years, distanced himself from acting and
from Voyage.
